City of Stuart Single Use Plastic and Polystyrene Ordinance in Public Parks, Offices and Beaches

Polystyrene foam food-ware and single use plastics are a major source of litter and one of the top items we find on our regular beach cleanups. The Treasure Coast Chapter seeks to ban polystyrene foam food-ware on all City of Stuart beaches and parks!

The Florida Legislature has taken away the ability of cities and counties to ban polystyrene in all areas except municipal property. That's why our Treasure Coast Chapter is working with the City of Stuart to ban polystyrene foam food-ware and single use plastics on all county beaches and parks. This is a first, but important step for the county to take in reducing plastic pollution.

On October 28th, City of Stuart Mayor and Commissioners voted to pass this ordinance, vowing to stop using single use plastic and foam materials at all city-owned parks, facilities, venues and permitted events, diverting tons of waste from landfills.
